www.esotericarchives.com/solomon/scot16.htm

“Discovery of Witchcraft” was a controversial work when published in 1584. It has the honor of not only being the first book in English devoted to denied witchcraft, but also of being the first major work to expose illusionists’ apparatus. King James 1 found the work damnable, and on his accession to the throne in 1603 ordered all copies to be burned. It was from Reginald Scot’s text that Shakespeare got hints for his witches in Macbeth. You can read an excerpt, written in old English, on this site.

www.funnyheck.com/mortomagician.html

Magic is a universal language… as well as humor. Here is comedian Steve Martin as “Morto the Homicidal Magician”, whose act litters the stage with accidental corpses until the stage manager decides to get his own back using The Cabinet of Swords. Director Conrad Vernon stages Martin's silent shtick in a richly-colored Herculean-style animated setting, whose curlicues and pop-eyed victims underline the surreal simplicity of the gags. Funny!
